TC Sports Club lifted the U-19 youth championship trophy by defeating Super United Sports 5-4 after penalty shootouts in the final match, after the normal time ended in a stalemate.
TC goalkeeper Mohamed Shiyaz had saved a penalty. His teammate, however, missed the mark on the next spot kick. TC became the champions when the decisive sixth penalty from SUS – taken by Soozan Hassan Ahmed – had missed the target.
TC SC reached the final by winning 2-1 against Maziya SR in the semifinals. SUS had secured their spot in the final with a 3-1 win over Eagles SC.
The two finalists faced each other and drew 1-1 in the final game of the group stage. SUS secured the top spot by goal advantage. Clubs Buru SC and Odi Sports were eliminated by the end of the second fixture. Odi Sports managed to end their tournament with a win over Buru SC.
Maziya topped Group B undefeated, while Club Eagles snatched the second spot from Club Green Streets in the last game of the group. United Victory had failed to gain a point in any of the three games.
The Golden Boot was awarded to Mohamed Izaan Ali of TC, who scored five goals throughout the tournament. Ahmed Nimad, the mastermind behind TC’s success, was awarded the title of best coach.
This is the second time that coach Nimaa had won the youth championship title. He did the invincible run-up to the trophy in 2022 as well, when he managed to win the championship with Club Eagles.
