In a recent development, allegations against Handball Maldives President Ahmed Mujuthaba (Mujey) and former General Secretary Abdulla Anwar have been submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for investigation.
Anwar was dismissed from his role as General Secretary earlier this month following accusations of misappropriating funds. Handball Maldives, in an official statement, had indicated that the disciplinary committee was conducting further investigations into Anwar’s actions at the time of his dismissal. According to the allegations, Anwar is said to have wrongfully acquired close to MVR 500,000 in addition to his salary by reportedly forging the signature of another senior association official.
Alongside Anwar, President Mujuthaba is also under scrutiny, facing allegations related to advance payments of allowances. Although he has previously denied any wrongdoing, the case brought before the ACC accuses Mujuthaba of taking a monthly allowance of MVR 4,500 in bulk for 11 months, amounting to MVR 49,500.
These accusations have prompted concern and raised questions within the Maldivian sports community. The Anti-Corruption Commission is expected to review the cases and determine if further action is warranted.
