The Badminton club has held the draw ceremony for the Dhiraagu Maldives Junior Open, the first badminton tournament of its kind in Maldives.
A total of 347 players, across 30 events, have been grouped in the ceremony held tonight at Henveyru Boalhage. According to the tournament organizers, a historic number of 737 matches will be played across both girls’ and boys’ categories.
Seven different age categories across both boys and girls are included in Junior Open -U9, U11, U13, U15, U17, U19 and seniors. In addition, a special category is included for athletes with disabilities.
The Dhiraagu Maldives Junior Open will be held from 1st to 6th September at Ekuveni Indoor Court. The tournament has attracted a great many shuttlers from outside the capital, mostly from Eydhafushi, Naifaru and Addu. Around 30 foreign players are also expected to participate.
