Maziya Sports and Recreation have returned to defend the FAM Youth Championship title, as they kicked off the tournament with a win over TC Sports Club this evening.

The first two goals of the opening game were scored by Ilan Imran. With a leaping header from inside the six-yard box, Ilan gave Maziya the lead in the fifth minute of the game, assisted by a long cross from Aidh Mohamed Javeez.

Ilan widened the lead for Maziya in the 18th minute. Following a turnover of possession at the halfway line, Ilan burst through the TC defense line before firing into the far corner of the net.

Maziya made it 3-0 five minutes before half-time, as Anoof fired a loose ball into the top-right corner of the goal.

Although having to play most of the second-half under heavy rainfall, Maziya managed to score four more goals, and finish TC off with a clean sheet.

The fourth goal was scored by Aidh Mohamed Javeez, who picked up the ball near the semicircle and made a solo run before firing in low and hard from the center, having his first shot blocked by a defender.

Maziya’s next attack saw captain Ilan Imran go on to complete his hat-trick, in the 72nd minute of the game. Three minutes later, substitute Naheek Ahmed Niyaz scored a header on his debut, assisted by a cross from Nassah.

Naheek went on to strike once more. With five minutes remaining, the 16-year-old struck a lowball just after entering the penalty area, making it 7-0.

Ilan was the one to wrap up the scoring, having a fourth goal to his name, combining with another assist from Nashiu.

The eight-goal lead gives the defending champions a huge boost right from the get-go, while TC are now burdened with a huge goal deficit.

The FAM Youth Championship 2026 will continue tonight, as Buru SC takes on debutants Keyodhoo.
