In a letter addressed to the president of Eydhafushi Council, Club Eagles has demanded a fee of MVR 200,000, plus health insurance, for the release of Nishaam Mohamed (Pogba) to play in the ongoing Gold Cup.
The Club Eagles letter, signed by General Secretary Saeedh Ali, was in response to the Eydhafushi Council, which had pleaded with the club to come to terms with fielding Nisham for the rest of the island’s games in the Gold Cup.
“We believe the Gold Cup is of no benefit to this country’s football”, Club Eagles stated in the letter “And we believe that no player will benefit from this tournament”.
“…The only condition under which we can release Nishaam for the Gold Cup is for the club to be paid MVR 200,000, in addition to the agreement that all medical treatment be taken care of (by the island council) should the player be injured”.
In the letter sent on Monday, the council’s president stated the necessity of Gold Cup for Nisham as a player, and highlighted on behalf of the people of Eydhafushi, the importance of watching him represent the island.
The Eydhafushi Council praised Club Eagles for their contribution to Maldivian football, and stated that the island will “consider all proposals of the club regarding the release of Nishaam”.
Eydhafushi, who is in group B of the Gold Cup, had won the first game of Gold Cup against Thulhaadhoo. They will play their second game this evening against Thimarafushi.
