Team Maldives have won bronze in both men’s and women’s team events in the ongoing 6th Carrom World Cup in San Francisco, California.
Maldives defeated Sri Lankan women’s team in the third-place playoff. The four players representing Maldives in the team event were Aminath Vidhaadh, Aishath Naufa, Aishath Fainaaz, and Fathimath Rayana.
The Maldives men’s team -comprising of Hassan Nazim, Ismail Azmeen, Ibrahim Hujan Ali and Mohamed Munthasir – also faced, and defeated the Sri Lankan men’s team in the third-place playoff.
The other four players in the Maldives contingent; Shuba, Yamaan, Khathim and Lifaau have been taking part in the Swiss League.
The games were played on a best-of-three format; the winner is determined by whoever wins two of the three sub-matches of the fixture. In the team event, each fixture includes two singles games and one doubles game.
The Team event finals took place yesterday, and the singles finals in both men’s and women’s division – from which Maldives were eliminated – and the closing ceremony, are scheduled for tonight.
In the first day of the world cup, The Maldives had qualified to the quarterfinals in the doubles events of both men and women, but could not make it to the semis
The sixth Carrom World Cup is hosted by the United States Carrom Association, and is held in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. The Maldives Carrom team had flown to the States on the 8th of November.
