The Inter-school Athletics Championship has come to its conclusion yesterday after six days of events at the Hulhumale’ Synthetic Track.
A total of 1562 students from 52 schools had taken part in one or more track-and-field events this year. The meet was divided into four different age groups, and the individual winners in u-15, u-17 and u-20 were named yesterday evening alongside best school in all four age groups including the u-13 age-group.
Although the majority of students came from schools within the Greater Male’ region, a number of athletes named as age-group winners had come from up and down the country; South from Addu, from Huvadhoo, and up North from Kulhudhuffushi.
The under-20 gold medals in both female and male divisions were claimed by students from Addu High School. Aishath Shaim Azeez was named best under-20 female athlete. Shaim had won gold in long jump, high jump and javelin throw events, with the latter two being meet records. She is also the current national record holder in both long and high jump.
The best male athlete among this age group was Ahmed Absal. He had won gold in both 100m, 200m dash, with the latter being a meet record.
In both female and male divisions, the best school in the under-20 age group was awarded to Villa International High School.
Zeek Ashraf and Ahunaf Rayyan Fahmy were named the best among under-17 athletes. Zeek represented Iskandhar School, and won gold medals in 800m and 1500m runs, both being all-time records in inter-school athletics. Zeek is also the national Junior record holder in 800m. Ahunaf was the winner in 100m and 200m sprints, the latter being an all-time record. He also won gold in long jump. His school G.DH AEC was named best in the u-17 male division. Sharafuddin School from the capital of Addu was named best school among the u-17 girls.
Sprinters Aminath Auha and Ulwan Ibrahim Umar were named best in the under-15 age group, both claiming all-time records in the 200m dash. Auha, who represented Afeefuddin school, had also won gold in 100m dash and long jump in her age group. Ulwan from Iskandhar School took home the 100m gold medal from the u-15 boys.
The best school for under-15 girls was awarded to Jalaluddin School of Kulhudhuffushi City. Sharafuddin School from Addu was named best in under-15 boys.
In the under-13 age group; the youngest batch did not include individual awards. Rehendhi School was awarded best among boys, and Ghiyasuddin International was named best school among the age group’s girls. Runner-up school in u-13 boys was awarded to Aboobakuru School of G.DH Thinadhoo, and Jalauddin School of Kulhudhuffushi was named best among u-13 girls.
Hafiz Ahmed School of Fuvahmulah was ranked third-best school in u-13 boys, and Kan’duhulhudhoo School from North Huvadhu Atoll was third-best among u-13 girls.
