Club WAMCO have won their sixth VAM Cup Women’s Division trophy in six years, defeating debutants Club MTCC by 3 sets to 1 in the final tonight.
WAMCO won the final by 25-20, 20-25, 25-13 and 25-18.
The second set of the final match was the only set WAMCO lost throughout the tournament. They had previously defeated MTCC in thegroup stage by straight three sets. WAMCO reached the final by defeating previous runner-ups and their archrivals Police Club by 25-21, 25-19, 25-12 in Sunday’s semifinals.
VAM Cup history repeats as WAMCO clinches fifth straight title
WAMCO’s Fathimath Joozan Zareer was awarded Player of the tournament, and Kuttika Kaewpin of Thailand was awarded best foreign player award. Minhath Ahmed of Police Club was named as the best U-21 player. Besides Joozan, the top 6 players of the tournament included WAMCO’s Aishath Maajidha and Nareema Idrees, MTCC’s Maya Hussain Solah, and Huraa Community Club’s Manal Ismail Rasheed and Fathimath Liva Hussain.
MTCC reached the final after defeating Huraa Community Club. HCC had lost this evening’s third-place playoff game by 25-13, 25-17, 25-20, at the hand of Police Club.
