Odi Sports Club has narrowed the gap between them and table leaders Maziya to just three points, after defeating United Victory in this evening’s game of the DPL.
Building on the winning momentum from the previous games, Odi scored two goals in the first half and three in the second. Two of the goals were scored by the Lithuanian midfielder Karolis Laukzemis, one in each half of the game. Karolis scored the first from the penalty spot in the 34th minute. Odi had broken the deadlock via an own goal by UV defender Mohamed Shamhan moments before they were awarded the penalty.
Just three minutes after second half kicked off, Karolis scored his second goal of the game, and his eighth of the season.
Having assisted Karolis, Muzdhan himself got on the scoresheet in the 11th minute of the second half. Muzdhan’s goal was set up by a through ball from Ahuzam Rasheed on the counterattack.
This was Muzdhan’s eighth goal of the season as well. In the top scorer rankings, both Muzdhan and Karolis are now tied with three others – Buru SC’s Naaim, New Radiant’s Ali Fasir and Hudson Jesus of Buru SC.
The overlapping right wing back of Odi, Ahmed Aiham scored in the 61st minute, cutting into the area from the left wing and taking on two defenders. The shot from Aihu had taken a huge deflection off a UV defender’s leg before finding the net.
United Victory were able to score a consolation goal in the 73rd minute; their Egyptian forward Mostafa Mahmoud Ali headed in a long cross from the right flank by another foreign player, Mohamed Samir.
With another heavy defeat, United Victory is at risk of slipping lower into the relegation zone. They are currently at eighth with seven points. Having suffered the biggest defeat of the season – an 8-0 loss at the hands of Buru SC last week – UV has now conceded thirteen goals in just two games. Their cumulative concession of goals has reached to 32 goals, the highest conceded of any club so far this season.
Winning for the ninth game in eleven, Odi has reached 28 points, three points behind table leaders Maziya.
