Ramazan 7v7 League, a veteran’s league dedicated to the memory of late Mohamed Arif (Baka), has kicked off at Henveyru Stadium this evening.
Arif’s passing was a heartbreaking loss to the Maldivian football community. His legacy, however, continues to live on in the hearts of his fans, teammates, and the many young players who look up to him as an icon. To honor his memory, we are dedicating the Ramazan 7v7 League 2025 to Mohamed Arif. As we gather to celebrate football, we remember Baka, not just as a player but as a legend whose legacy will inspire generations to come. – Maldives Soccer Mates
Today’s opening game was played between Madistars Veterans VS Muiveyo Friends Club, with the latter winning the game by 2-1. The The masters’ category was opening match that followed, saw Socccer Veterans’ AoM defeat Muiveyo Friends Club by 5-1.
Games of the 7v7 Veteran’s League are played in 10-minute halves, within a smaller playing field .
The league organized by Maldives Soccer Mates, will be played across a veteran’s category (40-50 year-olds) and masters’ category (50 years and above). The league features a total of 17 teams, with both veterans and masters categories divided into two groups each.
Games of the 7v7 Veterans League have been scheduled from today until the end of Ramadan. The group stage games are divided into two rounds, with a play-off round in between. Semifinals are scheduled for the 26th and 17th of March.
Maldives Soccer Mates have organized multiple tournaments over the past decade, including Ramazan Veterans Cup (2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019), MSM Futsal Cup (2018 and 2019) MILO 7v7 Championship (2014) and the newly created Dhivehi Youth League in 2024.
In last year’s Ramadan, MS Mates had become champions of the Milo 7v7 Championship – Veterans/Masters. This was Mohamed Arif’s final tournament before he sadly passed away on June 25th.
