After years of anticipation and multiple postponements, the 14th South Asian Games have been finalized to take place across three cities of Pakistan from 23rd to 31st January 2026.
In a press release published today, the Maldives Olympic Committee announced the South Asia Olympic Council’s decision to finalize the date of SAG as well as the host cities; Islamabad, Faisalabad and Lahore.

The executive committee meeting of SAOC was held today in Lahore. Ahmed Munthaqim, the Vice President of MOC and Secretary General Thamooh Ahmed Saeed represented the Maldives in the meeting.
While a total of 27 sports are approved for the Games, the specific events within each sport will be finalized by the end of March.
MOC states that the committee is currently assessing the participation of Maldives across the approved sports, and that the decisions will be communicated to the respective associations within the next few weeks.
The following sports have been approved for the South Asian Games 2026: Aquatics (Swimming), Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Billiards & Snooker, Boxing, Fencing, Golf, Judo, Karate, Shooting, Squash, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Triathlon, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Wushu, Basketball (3×3 and 5×5), Cricket, Football, Handball and Beach Handball, Hockey, Kabaddi, Rugby, Volleyball & Beach Volleyball, and Rowing (pending).
