Biss Buru Sports Club has secured qualification for next season’s Dhivehi Premier League after a 3-0 victory over Huraa Community Club last night.
The Malé Region champions Biss Buru have now moved up to 10 points from four matches. With one game still left to play, Biss Buru are on course to finish on top of the qualification league.
Mohamed Maaish Mausoom opened the scoring last night, finding the net in the sixth minute. The lead was doubled midway through the first half when Huraa center back Francis Agbeti Olumide conceded an own goal in the 29th minute, before Saad Abdelaziz Ibrahim Elmokanen added a third for Biss Buru just three minutes later.
Having scored three goals within the opening 32 minutes, Biss Buru had crushed the spirit of Huraa by halftime.
Huraa attempted to respond after the break and enjoyed more possession than they had in the opening period, but they struggled to create clear-cut opportunities against a disciplined Biss Buru defence. The league leaders comfortably saw out the second half to secure all three points and, with it, their place in next season’s Dhivehi Premier League.
While Biss Buru can now approach their final fixture with qualification already secured.
Last night’s result also means South Region champions Dhidhdhoo has also qualified. The relegation scare for TC Sports Club has now been over as well, as they take the third spot. Both sides have seven points, although TC have a game in hand over the North Region champions. Dhidhdhoo have a game in hand as well.
Gadhdhoo Sports Club sit fourth on three points with two matches remaining, leaving their fate largely in their own hands. All they need to qualify is defeat TC Sports Club this evening.
Green Streets, who have competed in Dhivehi Premier League since 2017, are fifth with two points from four matches and face a must-win final fixture against Gadhdhoo. Even victory may not be enough for Green unless TC holds back Gadhdhoo this evening.
Huraa remain mathematically alive despite sitting bottom of the standings. Their hopes are fading after last night’s defeat.
As for Biss Buru, for a club with 25 years of history, their entrance to the Dhivehi Premier League next season will be a dream come true for the club.
