The Asian Surfing Championship made the first call Monday morning, as the Men’s Open kicked off at Mahabaliuram’s point break in Tamil Nadu, India.
The first from the Maldivian national team to hit the water was Ismail Rasheed (Smiley), who scored 7.5 points. Smiley ended tbe heat in second place, competing against Lucas Santiago (11.37), a Malaysian, and Jun Seohyun (7.00) from South Korea.
Hood Ahmed (Hoobs) surfed in heat 6 of the opening round. He competed against Jung Uijong (9.60) from Korea and Aniq Kailani (4.24) from Singapore.
Both Smiley and Hoobs finished second in their respective heats, and qualified for round 2.
Heat 11 saw Ahmed Agil compete against Julien Spac from Singapore and Alfred Badr from Lebanon. Agil scored 7.67 and finished first place in the heat, 1.87 points above Spac. Ammadey had scored 3.50 and 4.17 in his first and third waves.
Having won first place in the heat , Ammadey is seeded first in heat six of round 3, where he will compete against four surfers.
