Dhivehi Premier League has returned for the 2026/2027 season, as Maziya Sports and Recreation defeats Odi Sports Club in the season opener tonight.
The defending champions Maziya kicked opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 12th minute of first half, converted by Benjamin Thomas Kuku, who had come on as a substitute after Ilan Imran walked off with an injury. Maziya was awarded the penalty kick after Abdhullah Looth was tripped inside the area by Mohamed Rasheed.
Twenty one minutes were added to the first half, the playing having had to be paused due to a malfunctioned floodlight inside the stadium. Moments before half-time, Maziya’s Aiham went down in a one-on-one with Odi goalkeeper Ashwan. Following the referee’s decision to keep the play on, Maziya’s Aisham was booked for dissent, and so was Nikola.
Odi almost equalized five minutes into the second half, as Ahmed Aiham’s freekick was punched wide by Hussain Shareef.
