Three Maldivian surfers competing in the Women’s Open of Asian Surfing Championship have completed the first round of heats.

The Women’s Division, which was initially set for the first day of the championship, was rescheduled due to inadequate conditions at the break.

Maryam Raya Naseem was the first Maldivian to hit the water in today’s heats. Scoring 1.3 points, Aya finished 2nd place in her heat.

Surfing in the ninth heat of the round, Fathmath Rishtha scored 1.47 points, finishing second. Rishtha’s only opponent in the heat was Taina Angel of Indonesia.

Shaziya Saeed (Shaazu) surfed in the heat that followed, scoring 2.46 points.

Although Shaziya delivered the highest score of the day among the three Maldivians, she finished third in her heat.

Despite that, just as her two national teammates, Shaziya still survived to round two.

Day three will be dedicated to the U18 Boys’ heats. The three surfers from Maldives, Kayan Zaki, Kayan Areef (Kaiputty) and Yasin Nashid, are set to surf in the first, fourth and fifth heats respectively.
