Day three of the 6th Asian Carrom Championship was a day for the history books. Maldives men made it through to the final of an international Team Event for the first time in over two decades.

Maldives men defeated Bangladesh in the semifinals and faced the reigning world champions India in the final of the team event. The men’s doubles pair Adheel/Hujan took on the doubles game, and Azmeen and Nazim took the single games.

The women’s pair Nahufa/Shuba took on the doubles challenges while Rayana and Vidhaadh represented Maldives women in the singles games of the event.

The team event format, designated for day 3, required each team to take on two singles games and one doubles game in each tie in the tournament.

Days four and five of the championship are designated for simultaneous singles tournaments for men and women. Group stage games and the quarterfinals are scheduled for tomorrow. The semifinals and finals of the singles tournaments are to be played on the fifth and last day.

The National Carrom Team has pleaded for as many fans and carrom lovers to stop by the Social Center and support the team as they “strike for glory”.
