Ajfan International Badminton Academy successfully concluded its 3rd Open Championship this Saturday night, celebrating emerging badminton talent with three days of competition from May 1st to 3rd.

This year’s championship saw a total of 186 participants, including 128 singles players and 58 doubles pairs.

The tournament featured players representing four academies: Ajfan Academy, Revival Sports Badminton Academy (RSBA) Eydhafushi, YDP, and Afnaan Rasheed Badminton Academy (ARBA).

Young shuttlers competed across six age categories in both singles and doubles events. Saturday’s finals saw several players distinguish themselves with dominant performances in both singles and doubles.

Girls’ Singles Champions

U19: Aishath Zoya Hussain clinched the girls’ U19 title, putting in a composed performance to defeat Ulwa Ahmed Shiyaz in the final.

U17: Aminath Farha Faroozan emerged as a double champion, winning the U17 singles crown before pairing with runner-up Kiyaan Adil Mohamed to secure the U17 girls’ doubles title as well.

U15: Yalvee Hussain Zuhury showcased her versatility by capturing the U15 singles championship and teaming up with Laiba Ahmed Mahloof to win gold in U15 doubles.

U13: Laiba Ahmed Mahloof added a second gold by winning the U13 singles title.

U11: Aishath Sienna Mohamed Saeed took home the U11 girls’ singles title after an impressive run, while runners-up Dhaana Ali Wiam and Luyuna Wasiu teamed up to win the U11 doubles.

U9: Mariyam Mia Mamdhoon emerged champion in the U9 category, showing early signs of promise in the youngest age group.

Boys’ Singles Champions

U19: Ayyoob Azhar Mohamed claimed the boys’ U19 title after overcoming Adam Maheen Mohamed in the final.

U17: Ahmed Falah Faroozan impressed in the U17 category, taking home the singles title with a composed finish against Izyaan Abdulla Saeed.

U15: Iyaan Ahmed Mamdooh was crowned the U15 boys’ singles champion following a closely fought final against Risham Abdul Fathah. Notably, Risham went on to win the U15 boys’ doubles title alongside Awf Bin Fazloon.

U13: Vilan Shafee Ali secured the U13 singles crown, while runner-up Mohamed Yuan Arafath Saeed partnered with Kayyif Ahmed Iqbal to win the U13 boys’ doubles title.

U11: Ibrahim Naaim Nazeem captured the U11 singles championship. Doubles glory in this age group went to Thilaal Ibrahim Waheed and Yoosuf Alaf Bin Rilwan, the latter finishing runner-up in singles as well.

U9: Easa Laith Bin Aflaam triumphed in the U9 boys’ category, overcoming Kaisan Luke Fiyaaz in the final.

Ajfan Academy was registered in November 2020. It holds annual badminton championships aimed at junior players, as well as for parents, and has quickly grown into one of the key hubs for youth badminton development in the Maldives.
