Shamha breaks 5,000m National Record in Germany

Shamha Ahmed has broken the Maldivian national record by finishing fourth in the 5,000m race in the German Railway Open, Grefrath.

Shamha finished the race in 19 minutes and 42.25 seconds.

The record was previously held by Aminath Jaaisha Juneez, who set the record in 19 minutes and 43.09 seconds during the national championship in September 2022.

Shamha, 41, who is coached by Nasrullah Ahmed (Nasr), finished second in her age group. She finished fourth, competing against runners from younger age groups.

She currently holds the national marathon and half marathon records.

Shamha will also compete in the 10,000m in Germany next Saturday.
