The president Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to establish a fund named ‘Sports Development Fund’.
The president reached this decision after a cabinet meeting held on Monday, November 04th 2024.
This decision was made after deliberations with the cabinet ministers, following a proposal put forth by the Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Abdhulla Rafiu.
The president also resolves to “take all necessary steps to establish the National Sports Fund, including making required amendments to the Sports Act (No. 30/2015)” as per a press release by the President’s Office.
According to the press release, the fund will aim “to increase the number of players and athletes, improve and develop sports, and empower the local sporting community”.
