Police Club has triumphed over MPL in the final of this year’s Eighteen Thirty, the women’s division of the Club Maldives Cup.
The final match, played this evening at Rehendhi Turf, ended with Police Club scoring Eight past MPL’s goalkeeper. The Full-time score was 8-3.
Mariyam Rifa was awarded top scorer, with 17 goals to her name. Rifa was among four players from Police CLub out of the top five players of the tournament, alongside teammates Fathimath Saina, Aminath Leeza and Fathimath Theeba. MPL’s Mirzoeva Karina completed the list of top five players.
As the runner-up of 2023, Police Club has been ruthless in their pursuit of their first 1830 trophy; they scored 38 goals in three group-stage games alone. They ended the group stage on top, undefeated and without conceding a single goal.
Police Club lost the semifinal to Group B runner-ups Club WAMCO. But it turned out that Club WAMCO had violated the tournament regulations by using ineligible players, thus getting themselves eliminated and Police Club replacing their spot in the finals.
Runner-ups MPL qualified for the final undefeated, having defeated Stelco Recreation Club in the semifinals after a streak of four clean-sheet wins in four group-stage games. But losing the final meant MPL lost the chance to win the Eighteen Thirty gold medal for a record fourth time.
