Odi Sports Club wins its first match under new head coach Luciano Ariel Thieler, defeating Gadhdhoo Recreation Club tonight.
Played at Galolhu Stadium, this was Gadhdhoo’s first away match of Dhivehi Premier League.
Odi were up by three goals at half-time. The first goal was a tap-in of a loose ball by one of Odi’s new signings, Hudson Dias De Jesus. Hudson, who previously played for Buru SC, was one of the top three goalscorers last DPL season.
Odi scored the second goal via Ahuzam Rasheed, assisted by Muzdhaan Hassan. The goal was the culmination of a build-up that saw nine of its players being involved in it.
Following a turnover of possession in the final third, Muzdhan got another assist as he set up Ibrahim Waheed Hassan to make it 3-0 in the 36th minute.
Two second-half substitutes were involved in Odi scoring the fourth and final goal of the night, as Mohamed Sakhaau assisted Serbian player Tomislav Todorovic.
This was the eleventh goal conceded by Gadhdhoo RC. The debutants have played more games than any other team, but are yet to score a single point.
Earlier in the evening, Buru Sports Club were defeated by Biss Buru. The newcomers, who were a man down, nullified a first-half goal by Abdulla Yaameen (Yaanu). Buru had the lead when Uloof Ahmed of Biss Buru was sent off with a second yellow in the 76th minute.
But an 80th-minute strike by Aliu Owolabi Fatai equalized the scoreline. Buru still had ten minutes plus extra time to hold off Biss Buru, but they failed to do so; the latter scored in the seventh minute of stoppage time and completed the comeback.
Biss Buru now has six points in three games. They are currently in fourth position.
Saturday evening will see two games played at the same time. The game at Galolhu Stadium will see Maziya SR take on Victory Sports Club. Maziya faces Victory on the back of a defeat at the hands of New Radiant in game week 2. Victory, on the other hand, are on top of the table with two wins in two games.
New Radiant have travelled up north to Dhidhdhoo and will take on the North League champions. It would be the very first DPL game played in the capital of Haa Alifu.
