Mohamed Aan Hussain has shortened the lapsed time on the 100m freestyle national record in the long pool, competing in yesterday’s heat at the World Aquatics Championship.

The men’s 100m freestyle event, which took place yesterday, saw 110 swimmers compete across all heats. Clocking 53.80 seconds on the timer, Aan finished the race faster than thirty of the athletes. The fastest swimmer in round one had finished the race at 47.41, which is just 6.39 seconds faster than the timing on Aan.

Aan had first claimed the national record in the men’s 100m freestyle back in 2024, finishing the heat in 54.46 seconds at the MILO/MAS Malaysia Open Championships. He had held the record ever since.

The 21-year-old now holds freestyle national records in both the 50m and 100m events in the long pool. Competing at the Summer Olympics in Paris last year, Aan clocked 24.22 seconds, breaking the national record. He also holds the 50m national records in both backstroke and butterfly strokes.

Aan is also the national record holder in the 50m, 100m, and 200m freestyle in the short pool (25m). The 100m short course national record, which Aan renewed (00:54.89) in Hungary’s Buda Cup last year, had not been renewed in 8 years. Just as in the long pool, Aan is the national record holder of 50m butterfly and backstroke in the short pool as well.
