The second event of the Dhivehi Surf League 2025 has kicked off at the ‘Machine’ break in Maabaidhoo this morning, as the top surfers in the country reunite for ‘Kerandoo’.
Some of the athletes in the Junior U18 Boys event have delivered just as stellar a performance as they did back in Mulikolhu Raalhugandu. The star of the first event, Sayyid Salahuddin, returned with the same relentless energy, delivering 6.17 and 7.50 points respectively from his third and sixth waves of the round.
Two of the national team players – Kayan Abdhulla Areef (Kaiputty), and Yasin Ahmed Nashid – also delivered heat-winning performances. The combined 11.5 points from Kaiputty earned him a slot in round three, alongside Nooh Mohamed Dhunaim Irshad, who had won the heat he was in with 8.93 points.
Yasin Ahmed Nashid has also returned to his competitive best, riding precisely 8.0 waves twice in one round. The youngest of the national contingent who travelled to Mahabalipuram for the Asian Surfing Championship in early August, Yasin delivered the best results from day one of Kerandoo, a whopping 16.0 points.
Ahmed Luzain won the sixth and final heat of the round with 10.50 points. Defending champion of the U18 category, Mohamed Inaan (Kalhusoru), also made it to round three with 8.33 points. Ahmed Aal Adil had won heat 5 with 7.00 points.
Following the Men’s Open heats – in which most of the U18 Boys also competed – Sayyid, Yasin, Nooh, Kaiputty, Inaan, and Luzain all made it to round three of the Men’s Open category as well.
Ahmed Agil delivered the best performance in day one of the Men’s Open – riding 6.83 and 6.33 in his fourth and sixth waves. The second and third best results at the first round of Men’s Open were delivered by two youngsters who also stood out at the day’s U18 round as well; Sayyid (10.33) and Yasin (11.50).
