Yoosuf Kayan Hamdhan Zaki has qualified to the third round of the Junior Boys’ Open at the 4th Asian Surfing Championship.
Surfing in the first heat of the day – where all three surfers took on just one wave each – Kayan scored a solid 6.17, securing the top spot. His opponents – India’s Naveen Kumar and Singapore’s Mohamed Hayyan – managed to score 4.0 and 1.5 points respectively.
Kayan joins fellow Maldivian Yasin Ahmed Nashid in round three of the Junior open, where a total eighteen surfers will compete for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Kayan Abdhulla Areef (Kaiputty) has been eliminated this morning, despite having scored 6.90 points; Kaiputty needed an extra 3.17 to qualify.
Ten of the total twenty eight surfers in the Junior Open have now been eliminated.
Kayan Zaki will compete in the second heat of Junior round three, and Yasin will compete in the sixth and final heat of the round.
Besides Kayan Zaki and Yasin, all three Maldivian surfers in the Men’s Open have also progressed to round three of the senior category.
Following today’s heats, all three Women’s Open surfers from Maldives have been eliminated.
