Football Association of Maldives has announced that MVR 600,000/- will be dedicated to funding the clubs participating in the Women’s League.
In his visit to the Maldives last month, FIFA president Gianni Infantino had declared professional support for the FAM and its tournaments, including the women’s league.
President of the Football Association of Maldives, Ahmed Thariq, had met with the FIFA president and thanked Mr. Infantino for the financial support provided for the development of women’s football in the Maldives.
The league, which kicked off yesterday evening at Henveiru Stadium, includes the women’s teams of five first division clubs: Victory SC, Odi SC, TC SC, New Radiant SC, Maziya SC, as well as Bissburu SC.
This is the first time since 2014 that the FA is holding a women’s 11-a-side tournament.
