The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) will hold its ordinary congress next Friday, 27 June, with critical reforms set on the agenda, including amendments to its Articles of Association (AoA), a new electoral code, and the appointment of auditors for a four-year term.
According to a press release issued today, FAM will present its annual activity and financial reports for 2023 and 2024. The congress will also decide on the date to elect a new executive committee, bringing the association one step closer to the end of its normalization phase.
External auditors for the 2025–2028 period will be appointed during the session. In March, an extraordinary congress named Prudent Chartered LLP as the firm to audit FAM’s accounts for the previous two years.
“The amended articles of association were drafted under the guidance of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and FIFA. The proposed clauses have also been shared and discussed with the FAM’s member clubs,” the association stated.
FAM was placed under normalization in August 2024 after repeated violations of its statutes and a series of unresolved financial scandals. The interim committee, initially comprising five members, is now led by Ahmed Muizzu following the resignation of chairman Ahmed Zuhoor.
The committee’s mandate ends in July, making the upcoming congress a decisive step toward restoring independent governance at the FA.
