New Radiant Sports Club has revived its ambitions in the DPL title race, with this evening’s 3-1 victory over Club Valencia.

The Blues opened the scoring in the 43rd minute with a strike from Guilermo Da Silva, after Valencia defenders failed to clear a cross from Ali Fasir.

The latest signing for the Blues, Mohamed Fasir came on as a substitute for the second half. It took just three minutes for him to get his name on the score sheet, firing in a rebound ball from the D-Area.

Ten minutes after Faatte scored, Valencia managed to narrow the lead down to 2-1. A brilliant sprint and cross by captain Ethan Ibrahim Zaki from the right wing flew across the face of the goal and found Aidh Mohamed Javeez at the far post, who tapped it in with ease. The 16-year-old Valencia number nine had returned to the pitch after being sidelined for two months following an injury.

After a couple of near-misses in the first half, the winger Hassan Raaif finally scored in the 74th minute, making it 3-1. His first attempt at converting the corner-kick ball had been thwarted, but managed to tap in a rebound ball from inside the six-yard box.

Despite the three points earned this evening, five points remain between the Blues and Odi Sports, who are in second place. While New Radiant had earned 20 points in ten games, the table leaders Maziya are still holding onto their winning streak since the start of the season.

With eight games remaining, the Blues have still got a long uphill battle to fight for the rest of the season.
