In a recent game in the FAM Veterans League, organized by Club Events, Adam Lareef, “Rona” from Hurriya Sports Club, stirred controversy with his on-field actions.
During a crucial match between Hura and Hulhumale in the group stage, tensions escalated when the referee awarded a stoppage-time penalty to Hulhumale. Rona vigorously protested the decision, using inappropriate language towards the referee. Following Hulhumale’s successful conversion of the penalty, Rona’s frustration reached a peak, leading to an attempt to physically confront the referee.
In response, the referee promptly issued a second yellow card to Rona, followed by a red card, forcing a temporary halt to the match to restore order. Subsequently, the tournament organiser, Club Events, took swift action, suspending Rona from all future matches and events indefinitely in accordance with FIFA regulations. Furthermore, two supporters from Hurriya who encroached on the pitch during the match received bans from attending games for the next three matches.
The severity of the incident prompted the involvement of the FAM Disciplinary Committee, given the joint nature of the tournament with FAM. The committee will review the case to ensure fairness and uphold the league’s values of sportsmanship and respect for referees. Hurriya Sports Club has been cautioned to prevent any future occurrences to maintain the competitive yet friendly atmosphere of the league.
