The Maldives National Football team has departed to Bangladesh this evening, for taking part in upcoming friendly games.

The two games, both to be played against Bangladesh National Team, will take place this Wednesday and Saturday.

The National Team have been in training for the past week, under supervision of Head Coach Ali Suzain, Assistant Coach Ahmed Shakir (Shaakitte), and Goalkeper trainer Hassan Hameed.

Suzain has included three new call-ups in the squad; Mohamed Yameen, Abdulla Looth Ibrahim (Sané’) and Muzdhan Hassan. Yameen, goalkeeper of United Victory, had also represented Maldives with the U-20 National Team. Sané, the Maziya’s prodigy and Muzdhan has also represented the nation with the U-20 squad.

As the national team trained for the first time in over a year. the focus is on getting back to winning ways, having lost the game against Bangladesh in the World Cup Qualifying in October of last year. The National Team have played neither a competitive nor a friendly game ever since.

The Maldives is currently ranked 163rd in the world – a drop in eight ranks in 14 months – while Bangladesh is ranked 185th.
