The second fixtures of Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League kicked off this evening, as Buru Sports held Club Eagles to a draw.
After the heavy defeat against Maziya in the opening weekend, Club Eagles were quick to take charge of the game today. Ibrahim Mahudhee scored with a left-footed shot from close range in the sixth minute of the first half. The ball had landed on his feet after Buru goalkeeper Faisal bounced off Ahmed Rizuvan’s curveball.
Ibbe added to the lead fourteen minutes later. After receiving a free kick from the halfway line, Ibbe curled the ball through the Buru defenders and into the far post from inside the eighteen-yard box.
Buru SC went into half-time with hopes of a comeback, after Mohamed Naaim had fired in a knuckleball with a long-range free-kick, making it 2-1 in the 38th minute.
Buru were even more relentless after the break. Twelve minutes into the second half, Naaim was brought down inside the Eagles’ box, and Abdhulla Junaid scored from the penalty spot to equalize.
After another goalless half-an-hour of football, Buru SC claims the fourth point in two games, climbing to the top of the table for the moment. Club Eagles, who were title contenders until the very last game of the previous season, has struggled to find their footing in the new season of DPL. They had lost to Maziya 5-1 in the opening fixture this past weekend.
