Sector League’s second edition has reached its final, as Club Hawks seeks to overcome last year’s heartbreak.
Club Hawks, who were last year’s runner-ups, will play against Club RCC (Rasheed Carpentry and Construction) in Sunday night’s final.
Hawks face this final on the back of a goal-fest of a semifinal victory over Club Veligaa. Hat-tricks from Mohamed Naaim and Hussain Suhaadh Suhan saw Hawks score eleven goals past Veligaa last night. The final score stood 11-3.
Hawks were defeated at the hand of Arena in the Sector League’s inaugural edition’s final last year.
Club RCC, the team representing Rasheed Carpentry and Construction, won last night’s semifinals on penalties, after their clash with Maldives Islamic Bank’s MIBSA ran into a 5-5 stalemate at fulltime. Four of RCC’s five goals were scored by Abdhulla Ziyan, who also converted RCC’s first kick in the penalty shootout.
Both the finalists are on a winning streak since the League kicked off. Hawks had topped Group B as RCC made it to the knockouts as as Group B winners.
Heading into the final, Hawks players Mohamed Naaim (Helmet Jr.) and Ahmed Aiham (Aihu) are currently on a two-man race for the golden boot. By the end of the semifinals, Naaim had scored 13 goals. Aiham has 11 to his name.
The two finalists had faced each other once, in last year’s group stage game. Naaim had struck twice in the game which had ended in a 2-2 draw.
Teams representing 20 private companies had participated across five groups in this year’s Sector League.
Sector League is the last of the seven-tournament mid-year futsal season organized by Club Maldives. The season kicked off on 9th June with the King’s Cup, and continued with CMC Classic, Eighteen Thirty Classic, Eighteen Thirty, Club Maldives Cup, and Kidsal.
The organizers of these tournaments, Club Maldives, are now in affiliation with the Football Association of Maldives. They plan to integrate the inaugural national futsal tournament for next season’s calendar.
