Ahmed Agil, also known as Ammadey, is the champion of the Men’s Open event at ‘Kerandoo’ – the second of the three competitions of this year’s Dhivehi Surf League.
Ammadey competed against the fourteen-year-old prodigy, Yasin Ahmed Nashid in the final this afternoon. He was able to catch seven waves, making the best out of the last two – an 8.17 and a 7.17 points. His combined total was 15.34, precisely one point above Yasin, who scored 14.34 points.
Yasin rode six waves in the Men’s Open final this afternoon. The youngster who scored a record-breaking 10 points in a single wave yesterday to win the U18 Boys category, also claimed the best of the thirteen waves between him and Ammadey in the Men’s Open final – Yasin’s third wave was an impressive 8.67. Yasin’s next two waves were average, but he managed to wrap it up by riding a 5.67 wave in the last minute.
As unfortunate as it was for Yasin, the youngster had made it all the way to the final, the youngest in Dhivehi Surf League history to do so.
The champion, Ahmed Agil had scored an average of 13.42 points across six rounds of Kerandoo. His best performance was in round four, scoring a whopping 14.94 points. Ammadey went on to knock out Sayyid Salahuddin in this morning’s quarterfinals and Ahmed Hishaam Shaheem in the semifinals that followed.
Yasin had competed against Mohamed Inan Abdul Hannan (Kalhusoru) in the semifinals. Yasin qualified to finals with a 2.44 edge over Inaan – scoring 13.37 points. He had knocked out Mohamed Faariz in the quarterfinals earlier this morning.
