Maldivian tennis player Aaraa Aasal Azim, 17, has reached the girls’ doubles final of the ITF Maldives Junior Open with her partner, Tarita Hongsyok.
Aaraa and Tarita, who were seeded second in the main draw, faced a French-Russian duo; Eva-Vlada Anicina-Dzhygurda and Elizaveta Privalova in the semifinals this evening. The game was decided in two sets: 6-1 and 7-5.
In the doubles final, Aara and her partner, who is from Thailand, will play against the fourth-seeded pair; Seunghyun Cho of South Korea, and Yishan Xu of China.
The finalist pair’s journey at the ITF Maldives Open started with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Wijewardana (Sri Lanka) and Phitchayapak Srimuk (Thailand) in the first round.
Aara’s pair then faced Maldivians Nayara Usama Ali and Naba Nishan in yesterday’s quarterfinals. Aara and Tarita won the game 6-1, 6-4, knocking out her Maldivian counterparts.
Earlier this August, Aaraa had played another J30 Tournament of the ITF circuit, in Nonthaburi, Thailand, where she reached the doubles quarterfinals.
Back in December, Aaraa had won back-to-back singles titles at two ATF-Sanctioned tournaments in Male’.
