New Radiant Sports Club has made a winning start to their 2026/27 Dhivehi Premier League season, defeating Gadhdhoo Recreation Club.
In the very first DPL game played away from Malé – at South Huvadhu Atoll’s Gadhdhoo Football Ground this evening – A first-half brace from New Radiant’s number nine, Dorielton Gomes separated the two sides.
Both of Dorielton’s goals were assisted by fellow Brazillian, Da Silva. The first goal came in the ninth minute. Second one was a header from a cross by Da Silva just before half-time.
The highly anticipated match at Gadhdhoo Football Ground, which was first scheduled to be played Friday evening, was postponed due to heavy rainfall flooding the pitch.
New Radiant, who finished third in the league last season, will play against defending 1champions Maziya Sports and Recreation next Friday night.
Maziya and New Radiant have faced each other three times so far this season, with Maziya winning two of those matches: the Charity Shield and the Cup Winners Cup final. Their other meeting came in the group stage of the Cup Winners’ Cup, which ended in a draw.
Gadhdhoo, the champions of the newly formed North League, qualified to DPL after achiving fourth place in the playoff tournament. Their next game is against Club Eagles at home next Friday evening.
