Intra-atoll tournaments from within the seven atolls of the central region are about to reach its conclusion.

The Meemu Atoll championship, last of the championships from the region has reached its final, which meant the two teams to qualify from Meemu have been decided.

The finalists of Meemu – Dhiggaru and Veyvah – are the islands to confirm the last two slots in the zone round of the Central Region.

The Faafu atoll championship had finished last night, which saw a 12-2 thrashing of Dharanboodhoo at the hands of capital Nilandhoo.

Next up is the qualifiers for the Central League, to be played amongst two zones. The zone 1 will be played amongst Himmafushi, Gaafaru of Kaafu Atoll, Mathiveri and Bodufolhudhoo of North Ari, and Dhangethi and Mandhoo of South Ari.

Zone 2 will feature Keyodhoo – the sole participant of Vaavu Atoll which received a “bye” – alongside Mulah and Veyvah of Meemu, Maaenboodhoo and Kudahuvadhoo of Dhaalu, and Nilandhoo and Dharanboodhoo from Faafu.

The winners and runner-ups of both the zones in this qualifying round, will then compete in the ultimate Central League.

Zone contenders in the North Region have already been decided, following the atoll championships played amongst the northern atolls from Haa Alifu down to Lhaviyani.

The southern atoll championships are scheduled to start this week, with both Laamu and Thaa atolls kicking off their respective tournaments this Thursday.
