The Maldives Women’s National Futsal Team has fallen to Sri Lanka at the SAFF Futsal Championship 2026 this evening.
This was the fifth fixture of the championship’s women’s division. The turbulent game saw Maldives equalize three times, and Sri Lanka take the lead four times.
In the first half of the game, Maldives managed to neutralize a three-goal deficit, before the Lankans took back the lead to make it 4-3 just before the half-time whistle
First half goals were scored by Aminath Fazla and Fathmath Shaliya. The other goal of Maldives was an own-goal conceded by a Sri Lankan defender.
Fazla’s second goal helped Maldives equalize and make it 4-4, only to lose control of the game and concede another.
Sri Lanka conceded a second own goal after a cross from Shaliya was deflected into the net.
After Sri Lanka made it to seven goals, Maldives narrowed it to 6-7 with a long penalty from Raniya Ibrahim.
Although the Maldives Women’s National Team had seen five defeats from five games at the SAFF Futsal Championship, score lines from the fourth and fifth fixtures indicate the improvement seen within the squad.
Maldives will take on Bangladesh in the final fixture this Sunday.
