New Radiant Sports Club remains unrelenting in its pursuit of the second-place, as the Blues earned a 2-0 win over United Victory in tonight’s game of Dhivehi Premier League.

New attempted multiple chances in the first half. Alhaji tried from a narrow angle and got blocked away. An Ali Fasir free kick from near the D-Area was on target, but the goalkeeper punched it out.

A corner kick in the 35th minute by Ali Fasir led to the opener, as defender Mohamed Nizam headed in his very first goal since joining the Blues at the start of this season.

Towards the end of the first half, Ali Fasir attempted a bicycle kick from a long-range cross, which the UV goalkeeper cleared at the near post.

New Radiant brought in Ali Ashfaq at the start of the second half. Ashfaq was caught in a tackle inside the opposition area by UV defender Solah in the 62nd minute.

Two minutes later, New Radiant scored the second goal, in quite the similar way as they did against TC Sports Club in last week’s game – a long cross by Guilhermo Da Silva from the right wing found Alhaji at the edge of the six yard box, from where he put a powerful header into the net.

New Radiant reaches 30 points in fifteen games, with three left to play. They are still five points below second-placed Odi Sports Club, who won against Club Valencia earlier this evening.

Tonight’s defeat meant United Victory remains at bottom of the table, with seven points earned from just two wins and a draw in fifteen games. With an average concession of 2.86 goals per game, United Victory have conceded more goals (43) than any other club in the DPL this season.

Although the threat of relegation is becoming much more real for Mohamed Nazeeh’s side, they still have a chance to redeem themselves – with three games left in the season and Club Valencia, Green Street, and TC all within overtaking distance, not all hope is lost for UV.
