Abdhullah Yameen Hussain (Yaanu) has scored for the third consecutive game since his return from injury, as Buru Sports keep their unbeaten run intact.
The final score of the game between Buru and Victory Sports Club this evening was a 1-1 draw. Both teams would therefore finish the week at the same position as they started.
Buru could have reclaimed the third position by overtaking New Radiant – at least for a day – should they have won the game this evening. Victory could have climbed to fifth by overtaking Eagles – and hope Maziya defeat the latter in tonight’s game – if they had clung on to the lead.
Victory took the lead in the 43rd minute, as their Slovakian striker Milos Lacney fired in a powerful header from a corner kick. The corner kick, which was appealed to the referee by Buru players claiming a goal kick, was taken by Victory’s captain Amdhaan.
Buru SC found the equalizer in the 88th minute, as substitute Abdhullah Yameen fired in from a tight angle into the roof of the net after taking on a Victory defender on the right flank of the penalty area.
Yameen made multiple attempts at goal before and after he scored, including a freekick from near the D-area, which the goalkeeper punched out. The Buru number 7 had scored a screamer in last week’s 4-1 comeback against Valencia.
Victory, who had ramped up their squad in the mid-season transfer window, had been on ideal form until last week’s defeat at the hands of Maziya.
Buru Sports Club, who are third in the table, are undefeated in seven out of the past eight games of DPL. Their remaining games are against Maziya, Odi and TC.
