The Maldives Women’s National Team has defeated last year’s champions Kyrgzystan, by 3-1 in tonight’s game of the Cava Women’s Cup 2025.

The Maldives has now won all three matches of the league stage – the national team had beaten Bangladesh in Saturday night’s game, and won last night’s game against Afghanistan.

Maldives had a tough start to tonight’s game – losing the first set by 25-15.

For the most part of the second set, it was an even play. Having equalized at sixteen points, Kyrgyzstan had taken a huge lead and made 22-18. Following a time-out, Maldives fought their way back, refusing the away team to reach the setpoint – the set ended with Maldives winning by 25-23.

The next two sets were equally challenging, but not a challenge the national team could not overcome – winning the two in 25-19 and 25-22 respectively.

The last time Maldives faced Kyrgyzstan was fifteen months ago, at home in the final of Cava Women’s Volleyball Championship. Kyrgyzstan were crowned champions following a win of three straight sets.

For the semifinal on Wednesday, the league phase winners Maldives will face fourth-placed Bangladesh.
