Victory SC managed to pull off a comeback against archrivals New Radiant in last night’s game of the DPL.
The classical rivalry, popularized as ‘Rasvaadha’, between two of the most decorated clubs in Maldivian football, had seen four goals in last night’s showdown, with New Radiant scoring early on in the first half.
Assisted by Ali Fasir, the Brazilian striker Guilhermo Gomes Da Silva struck from inside the penalty area to give New Radiant the lead in the fourth minute of the game.
Victory’s equalizer came just before the half-hour mark, with newly signed striker Lacny firing his first goal of the game via a through ball by Ahmed Rizvan.
Lacny went on to give Victory the lead, firing a header into the roof of the net having assisted by a long cross from Ali Shamis in the twelfth minute of second half. This was the third goal scored by the Slovak striker in just two games since signing for Victory just last week.
Lacny came close to completing the hat-trick in the 87th minute, heading a corner kick at the near post. New Radiant goalkeeper Faisal was able to punch the ball out, only for Victory’s Uzbek defender Javohir Azamov to head it back into the net.
Last night’s win extends Victory’s unbeaten run to three games. It places them in fifth position, having scored sixteen points in eleven games.
New Radiant’s failure to hold onto the lead cost them the opportunity to close the gap between Odi Sports. The Blues are stuck at 20 points while Odi cruised past UV earlier this weekend, extending their edge over New Radiant to eight points.
