Mylo City SC defeated Faahi SC in the final match of this year’s Addu Football Championship. Mylo City won the game on penalty shootouts by 4 goals to 3 after a second-half header from Faahi SC’s Yoosuf Sidhaam cancelled out Naafiu’s first-half goal for Mylo City.
Mylo City goalkeeper Ajufan’s bravery in the shootout ultimately made the difference between them and Faahi SC.
The new champions of Addu made their entrance to the final having won all games in the league stage, scoring 32 goals – including a remarkable 17-goal haul against their subordinate club, United Mylo – and conceding just two goals. Faahi SC had scored 7 points in three games, and they were fortunate to have qualified to the final on goal-difference advantage over Xephier FC.
Organized by Unity Foundation in collaboration with the Addu City Council, MACL Addu Championship 2024 took place in two weeks and was exhibited on the Addu Football Stadium. The champions Mylo City SC were awarded MVR 100,000, and runner-ups Faahi SC won MVR 50,000.
The Addu Football Championship, which has been on pause since 2022, is regarded as one of the biggest club football tournaments in the country. The previous champions had been Feydhoo SC, who won back-to-back championships but did not participate this year.
