Mohamed Shaffan is the champion of men’s singles event of the 63rd National Table Tennis Tournament.

Shaffan won the final game with a comeback against Moosa Munsif Ahmed by 4 sets to 1. Munsif won the first set 13-11. Shaffan took the second set by 11-7, then turned the tide of the game with a last-gasp comeback in the third set, winning it 13-11.

He won the fourth set 11-8. Munsif fought back and fought hard in the fifth set, taking the back-and-forth deuce play into making it 16-16 before Shaffan scored two points in a row to win the game.

Although he won gold in the singles, Shaffan had to settle for silver in the mixed doubles event. He partnered up with Fathimath Dheema Ali and made it to the final, but were defeated by Aishath Rafa Nazim and Moosa Munsif Ahmed.

Shaffan is currently the titleholder of the ‘Best Athlete’ in Maldives, having won the title in the Maldives Sports Awards 2024. He is currently ranked 454th in the World Table Tennis rankings.
