Fuvahmulah City hits five past G.Dh Faresmaathoda in last night’s Group A game, keeping their winning streak intact into the second phase of the group stage.
Owusu Kofi, the foreign player of Fuvahmulah, hit a hat-trick as the city kept a clean sheet against Faresmaathoda. Iyash Ahmed’s second-half goal and an own goal from the opposition added to the full-time score of 5-0.
The in-form Fuvahmulah has become a nightmare for opposing teams; the southern city has now scored 19 goals in total, eight more than the second-best scoring record of Eydhafushi, who’s scored 11 goals. Fuvahmulah progresses into the second phase of the group stage having a goals-for/against ratio of +15, the best among all seventeen teams in the Gold Cup.
Faresmaathoda is knocked out with zero points and a game in hand, but three teams – Dh. Kudahuvadhoo, HA.Dhihdhoo and Dh.Meedhoo – will compete for the two remaining slots to advance from Group A. All three have earned 3 points.
While all the other groups have now completed the first phase of group stage, the five-teamed Group A remains active, as Dhihdhoo faces Meedhoo in tonight’s game. The remaining two games will be played on Saturday.
The second phase of the group stage will start on Monday, 9th December, as twelve teams in four groups will battle for a ticket for the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup.
