First Division club Super United Sports has officially withdrawn from the Dhivehi Premier League, citing financial struggles and difficulties in assembling a squad.

Sidibari has reviewed the resolution passed by the club’s executive board on August 23, 2025. In the document, the board confirmed that “the Club is currently experiencing severe financial difficulties, including outstanding debts and limited liquidity; and … these financial constraints – exacerbated by unforeseen circumstances – have significantly hindered the Club’s ability to recruit and retain sufficient players for a competitive season in the Dhivehi Premier League 2025.”

The decision, taken unanimously, stated that “withdrawing from the Dhivehi Premier League 2025 is necessary to preserve the Club’s long-term viability and enable a strategic financial and sporting regrouping.”

The resolution further declared that “the Club hereby formally announces its non-participation in the Dhivehi Premier League 2025.” It also acknowledged that “due to the financial difficulties and the unforeseen timing of budget constraints, it has been extremely difficult to secure the required player roster, further justifying the decision to withdraw.”

As part of its stabilization plan, the club committed to measures aimed at restoring financial health, including tighter budget oversight and limiting new player signings until conditions improve.

Despite the setback, the club affirms its commitment to return to the top flight, stating that it will regroup in the 2nd Division to fight its way back up to the DPL.

Super United Sports first entered the Premier League in 2019, after back-to-back promotions from the third to the first division. Their last appearance in the league was on December 1, 2023, when they defeated TC Sports Club 5–0 in the final fixture of that season.
