With one game in hand, Maziya Sports and Recreation are through to the Cup Winners’ Cup final 2026, and so are New Radiant.
DPL winners Maziya won this evening’s match in a narrow 2-1 victory over Buru Sports Club, who had made it to the Cup as the 4th placed team in the DPL.
Buru Sports Club are out of the Cup after this evening’s game, having previously lost a heavy defeat at the opening game against New Radiant.
Just as Buru, the Presiden’t Cup winners Odi Sports Club faced a second defeat in two games, this time at the hands of New Radiant. A high-scoring game with eight goals tonight, New Radiant’s newest signing, Dorielton Gomes shone yet again with another hat-trick. The final score stood 5-3.
Dorielton’s hat-trick was cushioned by Ethan Ibrahim Zaki’s strike late in the first half, and a goal from Amdhan Ali. This was Ethan’s first goal for New Radiant’s senior team. The 18-year-old had captained Club Valencia last season, and captained New Radiant in the FAM Youth Championship.
Amdhan Ali, who joined New Radiant from Victory Sports Club, made it 5-0 in the 78th minute. It remained the scoreline till the final three minutes of regulation time, when Odi finally broke through. Three goals in nine minutes, from Ibrahim Waheed, Muzdhan Hassan, and Mohamed Sakhaau, narrowed it down to two goals.
Ahead of the final New Radiant and Maziya are set to face each other in what would be more or less a rehearsal for the final.
New Radiant, who were the last champions of the Cup Winners’ Cup before it got halted, are now tasked with defending it eighteen years into the future.
