New Radiant Sports Club extends its unbeaten run to kick off gameweek 7, with a goalfest over Club Eagles.
The Blues scored three goals in the first half and four in the second, with Dorielton Gomes and Ali Fasir both scoring a brace. The Brazilian now has six goals to his name in the league, one above Victory’s Ibrahim Rizuvan and Dhidhdhoo’s Tetteh Gideon.
New Radiant’s attacking trio of the day, namely Ashfaq, Fasir and Dorielton, were all involved in taking the 3-0 lead at half-time. Dorielton was the one to break open Eagles’ goal, rolling the through ball from Fasir from his right to left foot before nutmegging the Eagles goalkeeper with a low strike from inside the area. Fasir scored from the spot after Ali Ashfaq was tackled down inside the area. With five minutes remaining before halftime, Dorielton headed in a cross from Ashfaq.
Within six minutes of restarting the game in the second half, Fasir got himself a second assist, placing the ball for full-back Ibrahim Maisaan to dip the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net.
Fasir’s second goal and New’s fifth started from a counterattack and finished with him dodging Eagles defenders, driving the ball in from the right side of the area. It hit both the goalposts before crossing the goal line.
Midfielder Yaya Billity scored a sixth goal for New, before Eagles pulled a consolation goal via Amir Shoeib Elsadek in the 80th minute. Substitutes Hassan Raaif and Ethan Zaki combined to deliver the final blow, as Hanna took on an Eagles defender at the right flank before firing into the near post to score the seventh goal.
This was Club Eagles’ very first defeat in the DPL this season. Eagles conceded more than twice as many goals this evening as the previous six games combined.
With three points from this evening, New have overtaken Eagles, Maziya and Odi. They now sit in second place, three points behind Victory.
New have a game in hand over Victory because their game against Odi last week was postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
Victory will be taking on Odi Sports Club tonight. Two games are scheduled for Sunday; TC will play against Biss Buru in the evening, while Maziya will seek to catch up in the title race, as they take on Buru Sports Club on Sunday night.
