Victory Sports Club builds on its incredible start to the season, as Mohan’s side secured a 2-0 win over Gadhdhoo Recreation Club.
In a game that saw a clash of the opposite ends of the DPL table, Victory dominated the first half, with both goals coming before halftime.
Victory’s Ahmed Hassan opened the scoring in the 18th minute. His shot from near the D-area was punched up by the Gadhdhoo goalkeeper Bojan Vukmirovic, but the save did not have enough power to stop Ammadey’s shot, which went bouncing into the net.
Ahmed Maaish Rasheed, the former TC Sports Club fullback who had signed for Victory at the start of the season, scored his first goal for the club in the 40th minute of tonight’s match. Running in towards the far post to catch a lofted ball from Ali Shaamis, the left back dove in for the header, to make it 2-0.
Victory played the two minutes of first half stoppage time with ten men, after the goalscorer Maaish limped off the pitch with an injury.
Maaish was replaced by Akram Abdhul Ghanee to kick off the second half. Ahmed Hassan was also taken off, for Hussain Shareef, and Ali Nasooh was replaced by Hassan Nazeem.
Akram, one of the most experienced players in Maldivian top flight football, put on a stellar performance, for which he was named Player of the Match.
“This is to celebrate you!” National team head coach Istavan Urbanyi said to Akram as he handed the POTM award. The veteran center-back was an apprentice of the Hungarian during his first spell with the national team.
With thirteen points in five games, Victory are three points clear at the top, with one game in hand above Club Eagles. New Radiant remain at third with eight points.
Gadhdhoo, who are at the bottom of the DPL table, remain winless at zero points after five games.
