The president of the Volleyball Association of Maldives, Mohamed Ranesh, had resigned from his duty, with one year left on his term.
Ranesh stated that he is parting ways with VAM after a year of progress for Maldives on the volleyball court and that he is satisfied with the status quo of Maldivian Volleyball.
As the former captain of Maldives, Raney had contributed to the volleyball community for years; he served as senior vice president of VAM and treasurer, before being elected president in April of 2021.
Despite a rather uneventful first year of term due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Raney mentioned that Maldives earned significant accolades later on, such as winning gold in the Central Zone Beach Volleyball Tournament and participating in the Commonwealth Games through beach volleyball. “Also, let’s not forget we competed against ASEAN nations and won silver on home soil”, reminded Ranesh in the press conference.

As VAM’s president, Ranesh was obliged to amend the operating policy of the association within 90 days of inauguration, but he fell short of that duty.
After months of chaos within the association, he eventually did manage to amend the policy. More representation and higher engagement in Maldivian volleyball is expected, and the new regulations would play a vital role, ensured Raney.
As a pilot by profession, the former chief of VAM has found a new life in Abu Dhabi, citing the new job as the main reason for his farewell with VAM.
