The commencement of the long-awaited football season has been delayed, as the Charity Shield match has been postponed.

Charity Shield, the game that marks the start of football season, was previously scheduled for next Friday, February 14th. The game has now been shifted to 24th February.

Consequently, the President’s Cup kick-off has been postponed to 26th February, leading to most of the cup’s games coinciding with Ramadan. The President’s Cup was initially set to start on the 17th.

The changing of the schedule has come days after FAM delayed the start of the Under-19 Youth Championship from 2nd to 13th February.

The Football Association of Maldives had published a revised Calendar for 2025 in mid-December. The uncertainty surrounding the start of the season had resulted in Maziya SR halting the training sessions.

In the revised Calendar, the start of first division football is scheduled for 8th April, a week after Fitr Eid.
