Three-time champions Kandima Maldives has suffered a historic defeat at the hands of Angsana Velavaru in the Dhaalu Zone final of Resort League 2024.
Just the one goal by Velavaru separated the two teams at full-time.
The newly crowned kings of Dhaalu are undefeated this year. They qualified for the atoll finals after narrowly defeating the defending champions of Dhaalu, Niyama Private Island, by 3-2 in the semis.
Kandima Maldives did not have the ideal start to the campaign, losing the opening game to St. Regis Vommuli, and having to come back from behind after conceding a goal to Sun Siyam Iruveli. The hosts however sought vengeance against Vommuli in the semifinal and enjoyed a 4-0 thrashing to secure their spot in the final.
Player of the tournament was awarded to Mohamed Shah of team Velavaru, whose multiple MOTM performances were key to the success of the boys in orange.
Moosa Ibrahim (Mushthatey) was named the best coach of Dhaalu, having taken Velavaru on an invincible road to glory.
Per the resort league calendar, Dhaalu Atoll was the second region to play in this year’s resort league. The zone’s games kicked off a week ago, on 7th June, after the conclusion of the North Male’ zone.
